Research on brackish water desalination by new energy—Take Gansu Province for example
Wang Gang
Strategic Study of CAE 2015, Volume 17, Issue 3, Pages 45-49
The paper proposes to apply one new technology base on the research results of “973” project of non-grid-connected wind power to gain freshwater in some areas (such as Gansu Province) which is shortage of freshwater resources, but rich in Brackish water. Then, efficiency advantages of the new technology are analyzed from the perspective of energy consumption and energy conservation. Some suggestions about this application of large-scale technology were put forward.

Study on the Mechanism and Cause Mode of the Karst Collapse——Taking Tai’an-Laiwu for Example
Gao Zongjun
Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 4, Pages 38-43
The fearful karst collapses have been produced in succession since 1970s by the exploitation of karst water in the area of Tai'an-Laiwu, Shandong province. The limestone buried by Quaternary System grows into karst caves, and karst collapse brings enormous harm to the local society and economy development. The spatio-temporal distributing characteristics of karst collapse are summed up in detail. The geological condition, artificial function and forming mechanism of karst collapse are discussed. The cause mode of the karst collapse aiming at the existing questions is discussed and the idea for karst collapse studying in the future is given at last.

Adversarial Attacks and Defenses in Deep Learning Feature Article
Kui Ren, Tianhang Zheng, Zhan Qin, Xue Liu
Engineering 2020, Volume 6, Issue 3, Pages 346-360 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2019.12.012
With the rapid developments of artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) techniques, it is critical
to ensure the security and robustness of the deployed algorithms. Recently, the security vulnerability of
DL algorithms to adversarial samples has been widely recognized. The fabricated samples can lead to various
misbehaviors of the DL models while being perceived as benign by humans. Successful implementations
of adversarial attacks in real physical-world scenarios further demonstrate their practicality.
Hence, adversarial attack and defense techniques have attracted increasing attention from both machine
learning and security communities and have become a hot research topic in recent years. In this paper,
we first introduce the theoretical foundations, algorithms, and applications of adversarial attack techniques.
We then describe a few research efforts on the defense techniques, which cover the broad frontier
in the field. Several open problems and challenges are subsequently discussed, which we hope will provoke
further research efforts in this critical area.

Ecological protection is critical for the harmonious development of humanity and nature, and ecological civilization construction is fundamental for the sustainable development of China. Wuyuan County in Jiangxi Province, a typical county in central China, has its own characteristics and advantages in ecological civilization construction. This study constructs a “five-dimensional analysis method” for analyzing the ecological civilization construction in counties. The five dimensions include economic construction, political construction, cultural and social construction, ecological service values, and the index system for ecological civilization construction. This method is adopted to summarize the achievements in ecological civilization construction in Wuyuan as well as its successful mode. Corresponding development directions and related policy suggestions are also proposed to promote ecological civilization development. Wuyuan's experience in ecological civilization construction can provide guidance for counties in the whole country.

Qian Xuesen´s life-time is reviewed in this article and his excellent character and behaviour that are benefited from good family breeding and school education are highly praised. His brilliant talent and plentiful attainments after receiving his training under Theodore von Kármán in the United States are introduced. The article describes, with host of facts that are rarely known, Qian´s unrelenting struggle for returning homeland and the contributions he made with all his heart to China´s space undertaking after he returned to China. Finally, the article reveals Qian´s lofty ideological level and virtuous character towards money, honour and position.

From the angle of the complement of Chinese traditional culture and Western culture each other, this paper briefly studies some typical examples about original self-determined innovation of modern science and technology since the 70's of the 20th century in China, and briefly summarizes a bit of understanding of the paper*s author, when he was devoted in the study of typical information method (TIM). The paper tries to demonstrate with practical examples that the traditional Chinese culture plays a great role on the self-determined innovation of modern science and technology, the form of which, etc . , is preliminarily investigated in this paper.
